That's a very common conflict when managing video drivers on Arch Linux, especially with NVIDIA and the AUR.

The issue is that both libva-nvidia-driver (from the official Arch repositories) and libva-vdpau-driver-vp9-git (an AUR package) try to provide the same functionality, which is the VA-API driver for VDPAU. This is why Pacman flags them as conflicting with the virtual package libva-vdpau-driver.

Since you're using mpvpaper and troubleshooting a crash related to VDPAU, here is how you should handle this conflict:

💥 Resolving Conflicting VA-API Drivers

You must choose only one of these packages to provide the VDPAU-to-VA-API translation. Since you are trying to reinstall the official NVIDIA driver, you should remove the conflicting AUR package first.

Step 1: Remove the Conflicting AUR Package

You need to tell Pacman (or Yay) to remove the conflicting package. Since you originally ran the command with sudo pacman -S --noconfirm, it failed because it requires a manual decision to remove the AUR package.

Run the installation command again, but this time explicitly remove the conflicting package:
Bash

sudo pacman -Rdd libva-vdpau-driver-vp9-git

This command removes the conflicting AUR package without checking dependencies (-Rdd).

Step 2: Reinstall the Official NVIDIA Driver and Dependencies

Now that the conflicting package is gone, you can run the original command, or better yet, run the entire set of reinstallation commands to ensure everything is correct:
Bash

# 1. Reinstall the core libraries
sudo pacman -S --noconfirm libva libvdpau

# 2. Reinstall the official NVIDIA VA-API driver
sudo pacman -S --noconfirm libva-nvidia-driver

# 3. Reinstall mpv (as it's the core dependency for mpvpaper)
sudo pacman -S --noconfirm mpv

Step 3: Rebuild mpvpaper

Finally, since you are using an AUR package (mpvpaper), rebuild it using yay to ensure it correctly links against the newly installed official libraries:
Bash

yay -S --noconfirm mpvpaper

After these steps, the required drivers should be installed and configured correctly, and you should be able to proceed with testing mpvpaper using the Wayland-specific flags you were advised to use earlier.
